EAST CENTRAL — The provincial New Democrats have selected a candidate for Kelvington-Wadena.

Linda Patenaude was acclaimed at a virtual nominating convention May 20. She will face off against the Saskatchewan Party’s Hugh Nerlien, the incumbent MLA, in the Nov. 6, 2020 provincial election.

“Rural families and communities are strong but struggling,” said Patenaude in a media release. “This crisis has shown just how vulnerable our province is to outside forces. Especially in rural Saskatchewan, we need a government that’s going to place us at the heart of decisions, not take us for granted.”

Kelvington-Wadena includes Porcupine Plain, Bjorkdale, Sylvania, Archerwill, Kelvington and Wadena.

Patenaude is the activity director for the Kelvington Housing Authority, while raising cattle and farming. She has also worked as a business owner and operator, at her town hall and as a golf club manager. She volunteers in youth sports and the Scouts.

With her husband of fourty-nine years, she has raised two sons and watched two grandchildren grow.

The NDP has 31 candidates selected for the election. There are 61 seats in the legislature. Lon Borgerson is running for the party in Batoche and Lyle Whitefish is running in Saskatchewan Rivers. No one has been nominated to run for the NDP in Humboldt-Watrous, Melfort and Carrot River Valley.
