EAST CENTRAL — No licence? No problem. Fishers will have a chance to drop a line for free this weekend in Saskatchewan.

The province’s annual winter free fishing weekend is Feb. 15 to 17.

All normal regulations will still have to be followed during licence-free fishing. For example, anglers are not allowed to use barbed hooks in either province and provincial fishing limits will be in effect.

The province reminds anglers to always put safety first when going out on the ice. Use caution and common sense, including testing ice thickness before travelling on it. A minimum of 10 cm of good ice is required for walking and 30 cm for light vehicle travel.

The free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks, and anyone planning to take fish out of the province must buy a licence.
