The Saskatoon Hospital Home Lottery's grand prize has been won by a couple from the Lake Lenore area.

Howard and Yvette Schemenauer won a $1.3 million home in Greenbryre Estates, as well as $50,000 in cash.

“It was hard to believe at first,” Howard said. “We’ve really never really won anything before so it’s quite a surprise.”

“It’s just unreal,” Yvette said. “We were in shock. Couldn’t believe it. It didn’t seem real.”

The couple found out about their win on the afternoon of Nov. 8.

“My daughter’s friend heard it on the news and then our daughter phoned us,” Yvette said. She made sure we were sitting down. It was really quite exciting.”

The lottery is held to support Saskatoon’s three hospitals. Yvette said they’ve been building tickets for the lottery for a long time.

“We always thought it was a good cause,” she said.

“It’s a good place to support and I think we’ll continue supporting it,” Howard said.

The home is 3,332 square feet and has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. It has five custom fireplaces, custom maple cabinetry and quartz countertops in the kitchen, a spa-like master ensuite and a fully developed basement with large rec room. Both Schemenauers, who toured the home Nov. 9, said it was a beautiful place.

“We haven’t really decided what we’ll do with it.” Howard said.

“We’ll take a while to think about that,” Yvette said. “We’re not real sure. We’re not going to jump into anything quick.”
