HUMBOLDT — On top of an eight-project wish list for the city are a major improvement to the wastewater lagoon, and baseball and parking-focused improvements to Centennial Park.

The city was asked by the provincial government to submit an expression of interest for the projects it might apply for funding for in the next round of federal-provincial infrastructure grant applications.

“They’re just putting it out there at all the communities to say when this project or these grants become available, what they are considering just so they can start tallying it all up,” said Rob Muench, Humboldt’s mayor.

The other projects on the list are an outdoor rink that can double as tennis courts, a performing arts theatre, phase one of a water main replacement and road construction plan, upgrades to the arena’s ice plant, a sport facility near the Uniplex and phase two of a water main replacement and road construction plan.

“These aren’t really a firm proposal, they’re just sort of an idea of what could be coming down the pike,” Muench said. “So we’re putting it out there and seeing what happens.”

The list, approved at the April 22 council meeting, does require the city to have funding available for one-third of the cost and for construction to begin within five years.

“I think if we were to get the money from the province and the federal government to do all of them, I think we would work out a way to find the money ourselves for the one third,” Muench said. “That’s kind of what we were looking at, is stuff that we can do if we get money.”
