CARROT RIVER — Ila Boehm was appointed to acting mayor for the Town of Carrot River, amid Bob Gagne’s resignation from the role.

Boehm was appointed by unanimous resolution of council on Nov. 20. She will serve as acting mayor of the town until such time as a by-election is called.

Council is required to set a date for the by-election prior to May 14, 2020.

Gagne’s resignation, effective Nov. 14, was for unspecified personal reasons.

Boehm will continue with her appointment as the town’s representative on the Pasquia Trust and will temporarily take over the former mayor’s appointments on the Carrot River Medical Clinic board and the Tisdale Landfill committee.

Councillor Dennis Letendre will temporarily take over Gagne’s appointment as the town’s representative on the fire and rescue committee.

The remaining council will have no change in their duties. Councillor Mike Livermore continues to serve as deputy mayor until Feb. 29 at which time Letendre will assume the chair of deputy mayor.

Boehm was first elected to council in October of 2016 and completed her eight month term as deputy mayor earlier in 2019.

Boehm is the first woman mayor in Carrot River’s history.

The Town of Carrot River said in a press release that the date for a by-election as mayor is expected to be set at a regular council meeting early in the new calendar year. The next general election of council and mayor will be held on Nov. 9, 2020.
