The Humboldt Medical Clinic received another new face this past month with the addition of Dr. Amteshwar Kapoor to their staff, including wife, Dr. Punashish Kaur Bhetia.
Bhetia has been practicing at the Humboldt Medical Clinic for over a year with Kapoor living in Humboldt while finishing up his exams to be able to practice in Canada.
Bhetia and Kapoor were both general practitioners in India before moving to Canada.
Both come from small communities in India so Humboldt was a place they could relate to. Size wise, their towns were the same, however, in India, small towns still mean dense population.
“This has a plus factor that it’s not so thickly populated and it has some nice schools. So in the future, if we plan to have kids, it’s a nice, safe place.”
Going through the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA) program, they have suggestions of different places who are in need of physicians, says Bhetia.
Coming to Humboldt in 2016 for a meet and greet, Bhetia says they really liked Humboldt.
“To date, I don’t have any complaints, it’s all good. We like this place so much that we’ve decided to stay here.”
In the last year that she has been practicing, Bhetia says that there is not a single moment where she has felt unwelcome.
“That’s the biggest thing that anyone who is coming from outside needs. If you get that sense of security anywhere, that becomes your home.”
