HUMBOLDT — Humboldt RCMP caught two people on Main Street trying the door handles of all parked vehicles searching for unlocked vehicles and any valuables within.

The attempts took place on the 600 block of Main Street, located between Seventh Avenue and Sixth Avenue.

“Luckily, all vehicles were locked and valuables secured,” the police wrote in a media release. “The would-be thieves were sent on their way by members of the Humboldt RCMP, hopefully a little wiser and without any stolen property.”

The RCMP are using the incident as an opportunity to ask people to always lock their vehicle and remove any valuables or keys.

They also are asking people to secure other belongings by making certain that anything of value is kept locked, avoiding leaving valuables unattended, using a strong lock to secure any valuables, engrave their name or driver’s license number on easily movable valuables, and recording serial numbers of any valuables.
