A local child care centre has been recognized for its efforts.

The Humboldt Public School Childcare Centre received the outstanding childcare centre award from the Saskatchewan Early Childhood Association at a ceremony held in Saskatoon Nov. 16.

“I was extremely excited, proud of our centre and all of the staff for everything they’ve done over the past three years to get an award like this,” said Melissa Sand, the centre’s director.

The centre has been open since March 2015.

A parent nominated the centre for the award, writing a large letter about the quality of the centre’s programming. She also had eight others to support the nominations,

“I feel it’s just recognition for the hard work that we’ve done and it’s just recognition that we love our jobs,” Sand said.

The director added the award is also a chance for parents to realize that they aren’t just a daycare, they also follow an early childhood education curriculum.

“It’s just a proud day for all of our staff,” she said.
