The City of Humboldt will not fund an regional effort to hire a contractor that will look at the needs and gaps that could be filled by new investors.

The Mid-Sask Municipal Alliance asked its members to collectively come up with an extra $10,000 over and above what's provided in their membership fees to fund the effort, to be used to develop a business attraction strategy. They managed to get a total commitment of $7,500, with Humboldt contributing nothing.

“They [council] felt that we're doing a lot of that type of stuff already on our own,” Muench said.

The mayor said he’s hoping that decision won’t have an effect on how it participates with region-wide initiatives, adding that Humboldt is the largest contributor financially to the Mid-Sask Municipal Alliance.
