HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28 has reopened, with extra protocols put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donald Hogemann, president of the branch and clubroom manager, said so far the crowds are small, with procedures being followed.

“In the first month or two when we closed we did a lot of cleaning and renovations, which we got all that done, otherwise we probably wouldn’t have,” Hogemann said. “I know our barmaid… It was a long time for her, she was happy to get back at work.”

New protocols put in place include hand sanitizer availability, physical distancing, and staff immediately disinfecting a sitting area when a member leaves their seat.

Hogemann said that their standards are based on those being used by the Bella Vista Inn, which they have been in communication with.

“Our tables are set up so you’re allowed six at a table, and we got them all spaced out the way they’re supposed to be, and we can hold up to about 30 people,” Hogemann said.

“They use the bathroom, it gets cleaned, we do have hand sanitizer if the people want it – it’s right there by the bathrooms.”

Regular Legion hours take place from Wednesday to Saturday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Additional activities taking place in the Legion hall include regular meetings, Chase the Ace, and private bookings.

There has been no date selected for the annual Legion fish fry, but Hogemann said the Legion is keeping an eye on safety procedures so they can host it once it’s safe to do so.

The goal for regular bingo nights to resume is in early October.

Those who are interested in booking the hall or clubroom for an event, following provincial guidelines, can call 306-682-4396 for the hall and 306-231-8664 for the clubroom.
