EAST CENTRAL — Teachers with the Horizon School Division will be contacting families to discuss how they will move forward to support their children’s learning needs.

In a letter to parents, Kevin Garinger, the division's director of education, said teachers will start directly contacting families on Monday, March 30.

“You will hear from your child’s teacher over the course of the coming week,” he said. “Teachers will also be busy developing lesson plans and preparing to support you and your [school-age children] in the days and weeks to come, if [you] choose to have your child continue their learning.

“This process is going to take time to develop, as teachers will be co-ordinating the communications to families and preparing for the delivery of learning that will look much different than most have ever had to deliver before.”

The province said that while students will be invited to continue learning and improve their grades, if they and their families choose not to, they will be assigned their grade as of March 13.

Garinger said parents can anticipate that the division will begin teacher-directed supplemental learning on Monday, April 20.

The division has also been developing a collection of online resources for students and families so they have practice learning and skills that align with the province's intended student outcomes. It will be found Monday, March 30 at horizonsd.ca.

“We are currently exploring options for how this sort of tool can be made available for our students who do not have regular access to the internet,” Garinger said.

Parents are encouraged to use the Horizon School Division’s Communications Centre Hotline for any questions or concerns at 1-306-682-2558. Please ask for the Communications Centre when calling.
