EAST CENTRAL — A heat warning has been issued for the Tisdale, Melfort and Nipawin area.

“Humidex values reaching 39 are expected,” said Environment Canada in its warning, issued 4 a.m. July 22. “A hot and increasingly humid air mass will build across the Prairies this week, sending daytime highs into the low 30s with humidex values into the upper 30s.”

Relief from the heat is expected to come later in the week, around Friday or Saturday.

Environment Canada warned residents to watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. People are advised to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place, as well as check on older family, friends and neighbours.
