EAST CENTRAL — David Holinaty and Jenna Hale are running for the Horizon School Division election in Subdivision 1.

Horizon School Division Subdivision 1 includes Wakaw, Cudworth and Bruno schools, meaning residents will have a chance to vote for their division representative during their municipal elections on Nov. 9.

Jenna Hale

Jenna Hale spent the last municipal term as a councillor with the Town of Bruno and has a deep love of local politics and representing her town. Now she wants to represent Subdivision 1 and be elected as a Horizon School Division trustee. Hale said she is passionate about the safe and caring school vision that Horizon adopted. The culture and vision of Horizon are what drew her to become more involved, she said, and she wants to continue to use that mentality to focus on other aspects of division issues.

“I want to focus on mental health, their literacy portion and financial literacy,” she said.

Hale lives in Bruno but has connections to the Wakaw and Cudworth area through previous work experience. With school division voter turnouts being historically low, Hale plans on calling people in her subdivision to talk about issues and encourage them to vote.

David Holinaty

Holinaty has had a long-standing history with the education field both in Canada and Asian countries. Education is vital for children no matter where they are living and as a trustee for Subdivision 1, Holinaty has made that his mission over the last term.

Before COVID-19 changed the way Horizon School Division operated, Holinaty said he was a dedicated trustee who went to all the division and subdivision events. Now with COVID-19, that is the biggest concern for the division is keeping students and staff safe, he said.

His goals for the upcoming term will be to continue providing the best education for the children of the Horizon School Division in order for them to thrive in whatever their future brings. Programs within the school division, including important mental health programs, must be made available to everyone, he said.

Holinaty grew up in Wakaw before moving on to other work outside his hometown. He did return and has lived in Wakaw for the past 20 years.
