CARROT RIVER — Bob Gagné has resigned as Carrot River's mayor.

The resignation, effective Nov. 14, was for unspecified personal reasons.

“It has been a pleasure to serve on town council, first as a councillor and then as mayor for the past 13 years,” he wrote in his resignation letter. “I have worked with many council members during that time period and will always remember their dedication and commitment to make Carrot River a great place to call home.”

He also thanked the town's staff for their devotion to the town.

Gagné was first elected mayor in 2009 and has served 10 years at that position. He was first elected to council in 2006. He was acclaimed as mayor for all three of his terms.

The town said council will elect an interim mayor until a byelection is held. The date is expected to be set at the Nov. 20 council meeting or the one after that. The next general election is on Nov. 9, 2020.

Gagné moved to Carrot River 21 years ago with his wife Susanne and sons Kevin and Brian to take a posting with the RCMP.

The town said it plans to take the opportunity to formally acknowledge Gagné's contributions at a future function.
