WYNYARD — Wynyard RCMP has charged 57-year-old Gerard Loehr of Ottawa with five counts of sexual assault and six counts of sexual interference relating to incidents that occurred between 1990 and 1996.

Police said that at the time of the alleged incidents, Loehr was a teacher in Wynyard and Foam Lake schools in Saskatchewan. He may have substituted at other schools in the area as well.

The investigation that led to the charges began in February 2019. Wynyard RCMP was contacted by a woman to file a report of historic sexual assault. Since the initial report, five other individuals have provided information to police in Saskatchewan involving the same individual.

Due to the length of time that has passed since he taught in Saskatchewan, RCMP said they do not have the exact details about which schools he may have taught in. He was most recently a music teacher in Ottawa.

Loehr left Saskatchewan in 1996 and continued to teach at schools in Ottawa after 2000. As the result of a related investigation by Ottawa Police Service, Loehr was charged in 2019 with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Loehr was arrested in Ottawa in Feb. 17. and was transported to Saskatchewan to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Feb. 18. His next appearance is Feb. 20 in Wadena Provincial Court.

While charges have been laid in relation to these reports, police said there may be other victims. The RCMP is encouraging anyone with information to contact their local police detachment, call 306-310-RCMP (7267) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
