DRAKE — A Drake man is $1 million richer after buying a lucky lottery ticket.

James Isbister purchased his winning Lotto 6/49 ticket at the Humboldt Thrifty Market in June. He returned to the store about a month later to check his ticket.

“I gave my ticket to the retailer to scan,” he said. “I wasn’t exactly sure what I’d won, so I didn’t have much of a reaction.

“The retailer noticed I wasn’t acting excited about it and told me to look at the amount again,” he continued. “That’s when I realized I won $1 million.”

Isbister said he plans to continue to take his time deciding what to do with his windfall.

“I don’t think the reality has really sunk in yet,” he said. “I’ve always played hoping that one day I’ll win, but I never believed it would actually happen.”
