The scores did not really matter on the Humboldt Golf Course back nine as the Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt and Area (BBBS) and Humboldt and District Kinettes held their  third annual Diva for a Day golf tournament.

This year’s theme was Fun in the Sun and included some wild costumes from the fifteen teams and 61 golfers.

They took to the course raising a record $11,000 to be split between the Kinettes and the BBBS.

Humboldt and District Kinettes Treasurer and Diva for a Day Chair Carol Pratt says it was a busy but successful weekend.

Besides raising the highest total, Pratt says that just hearing from vendors, golfers, and caddies, this was also the best tournament to date in terms of fun.

BBBS Caseworker Amy Hogemann says it is always a fun time and that is the focus of the tournament.

“There’s a million golf tournaments across this province and we have some really wonderful ones that are aimed towards golfers. This one is just really aimed towards fun and getting out there and enjoying yourself.”

Hogemann sees that enjoyment in the handful of teams that have made this their third Diva for a Day in a row and have no plans on stopping.

“They’re having a good time and they’re telling their friends.”

The day started with breakfast donated by Johnny’s Bistro.

Nine caddies then volunteered to spend the day with the golfers as they were auctioned off to the highest bidder for the day bringing in $2,300. Auctioneer Jeff Bergermann has volunteered all three years with Diva for a Day to auction off the caddies adding his own flair and fun to the event.

Many of the volunteer caddies were coming out from organizations, which does contribute a lot of fun for the day, says Hogemann.

“It’s an option if you aren’t able to sponsor from a business, you can have someone volunteer for the day and come out as a caddy which is a fun event for them.”

Stuart Bells from Colony Motors brought in the highest total with $455 on the first bid.

Hogemann says after talking to the team, their plan was to bid that much on the first caddie that came on the block.

In three years the Caddie Auction has become a big hit with bidding wars arising between the teams.

Misty Gardens also donated 11 flowers and succulent arrangements for auction which made $422.

Thanks to plenty of sponsors and donations, there was also a sizable silent auction, raffle, and booze basket raffle.

Before going out to hit the course, golfers were also provided a bagged lunch with Modern Meats and Humboldt Co-op donating all the food for the golfers. Supper was also fully donated by Humboldt Sobeys and Boston Pizza.

Golfers were given extra fun on the holes with special additions to compliment the golfing.

Different vendors also enjoyed their time on the course with a Piyo Break with Candace Burkart, a photo booth who Laurinelee Photography, the Mixed Culture Band serenading the ladies with their steel drums, Origami Owl jewelry, and Linda Mattock showing off her Makeup Erasers.

The Kinettes brought their own contests, says Pratt, with golfers competing in sand castle building, marshmallow drives, and hula hoop contests before teeing off.

Hogemann says there is no way the day could have gone off as successfully without the partnership between the Kinettes and BBBS.

Hogemann says the planning committee worked well together to provide all the fun throughout the day.

Thanks to many corporate sponsors and their cash donations, Hogemann says the majority of the expenses for the day was paid with $2,750 worth of donations.

All the money raised for BBBS will go towards their programming with the Kinettes putting their funds back into community initiatives, which will be decided at a later time.
