HUMBOLDT — The committee members tasked with developing a memorial for the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos has agreed on one thing: they want to take their time and make sure that it's done properly.

“It's one of those things where I think we have a lot of people saying we want to do something, get it done,” said Rob Muench, Humboldt’s mayor, after the May 13 council meeting. “I think we want to make sure we're doing it properly, in the right way, that we're not going to look back at it in a few years and say, ‘I wish we would have done something different.’”

The committee had its first meeting on March 13. There were a variety of opinion on what a form a memorial should take. One idea is to develop a facility or other type of usable space that’s directly related to hockey. Another idea was for a more quiet place with memorial murals or photographs.

“We've had a number of different offers from different groups and people throughout the country,” Muench said.

According to the meeting minutes, the committee is planning to continue discussing about the goals of the project and review the offers it has received.

The committee is also being kept in the loop on memorial plans for the accident site.
