Having collected almost $12,700 in connection to the Humboldt Broncos crash, city council voted to pass the money on to where it was intended to go.

“What a lot of people did is give money to the city because they didn't know where to give it to and they wanted to donate something,” said Rob Muench, Humboldt’s mayor, after the Jan. 14 meeting. “They basically looked up the City of Humboldt address, put a check in an envelope, mailed it to us and said, ‘here, make sure this gets to whoever it needs to get to.’”

The $12,700 will be forwarded to the Humboldt Strong Community Foundation.

The city has also received $23,100 in donations with specific instructions for what it is to be used for.

The Mosaic Company donated $10,000 for to be used by the city for arena maintenance and developing new programs in honour of Brody Hinz, Tyler Bieber and Jacob Leicht. The Western Communities Foundation donated $10,000 to help the city with expenses incurred to support the community. SaskWater donated $2,500 to help the city with expenses involved with the vigil and memorial services, as well as providing mental health resources.
