HUDSON BAY — The province will be celebrating seniors this year but those celebrations are going to be looking different this year thanks to COVID-19.

This includes the Town of Hudson Bay who usually celebrates the week, which this year falls from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, with a townwide community picnic. This year will look a little different due to COVID-19 restrictions and, following a Sept. 8 council meeting, the town has decided to cancel the lunch but has decided on an alternative way of celebrating.

In partnership with the RM of Hudson Bay, Handi-van usage will be free for seniors in October and November of this year, said Administrator Teresa Parkman.

The town has been putting on the luncheon for at least the last 10 years, she said, but even with the lunch being cancelled, the town still wanted to celebrate the seniors in their community.

The town will hopefully be putting on their usual picnic luncheon in the spring if COVID risks are low, Parkman said, especially given the crowd that will be attending the luncheon.
