CARROT RIVER— The Town of Carrot River has released details of how to vote at the May 8 byelection to decide their new mayor.

On the ballot are Ila Boehm, a current councillor, and Brock Irvine, who works in park maintenance. The winner will have a short stint as mayor, as the next general election is on Monday, Nov. 9.

The poll will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town office— all doors will be propped open so voters will not have to touch door handles.

Voters can either bring their own pen or they will be issued a pen for each voter to keep at the poll to sign the eligibility document and vote with, so COVID-19 cross-contamination doesn’t occur through the handling of the pens.  The voting booth will be wiped after each voter.

Community members are asked to not enter if they are feeling unwell, have a fever, or cough.

If someone is currently voting, community members are asked to wait outside until the previous voter has left the building— staff will be stationed to facilitate social distancing and mitigate risks.

Voters are asked to heed staff instructions and signs for the protection of themselves, staff and other members of the community.

All voters will be required to bring one piece of identification. The identification will not be touched by others.

Eligible voters include residents and/or property owners for at least three months in the Town of Carrot River. They must be 18 years old, resided in Saskatchewan for at least six months and have a Canadian citizenship.

If anyone has any questions, they are instructed to call the town office at 306-768-2515 for assistance.
