CARROT RIVER — Carrot River’s 17 graduates will be paraded around town, in a form of community celebration that can be safely practiced through the pandemic.

“Historically and traditionally the community has had an opportunity to also celebrate them, so having a parade in our community is a way to bring the community in on the celebrations,” said Kevin Trew, a parent of one of the graduates, and town administrator.

“The initiative is actually put on completely by the parents of the graduates.”

This route will look different from usual events due to it being designed to go past the homes of the graduates, if it is within town limits. For the graduates that live outside of town, the route will go past some extended family, whether it be grandparents or aunts or uncles.

“It’s a windy route,” Trew said.

Each graduate will be part of a homemade float.

Trew doesn’t want to give out too many details regarding his own family’s design, but since both his daughter Catherine Trew and her first cousin Albert Trew are graduating together they decided to combine their floats.

“We plan to put together a float celebrating both Albert and Catherine,” Trew said.

“Everybody’s got their thinking caps on and are being creative and wanting to put together something that’s representative of their graduate.”

The parade will take place June 26 at noon.

The Carrot River & District Recreation Board is supporting the parade through helping plan the route and advertising.

The board is asking the public to observe physical distancing, and watch from their yard, driveway or business front with their immediate families and/or virtual households.

If a person wishes to watch the parade that does not live within town or does not have a yard to safely sit, they are asked to park at any public parking space, so long as they just maintain physical distancing.

Following the parade, the Carrot River Jr. Sr. High School will be airing their graduation in an online format at 4 p.m.
