CARROT RIVER — The Carrot River RCMP is asking for public assistance after the local co-op had their doors broken into and power tools stolen.

The theft occurred at 5:44 a.m. on Dec. 1, and took a total of two minutes.

“A crowbar was literally put through both hardware entry doors,” said Ward Kewley, general manager of the Carrot River Co-op. “I mean, a genuine proper crowbar that you would see somebody using outside to pry things or whatever.”

He described the robbery as “targeted”.

“We know it was two men, we know it took them two minutes, it was very targeted, they knew where they were going.”

Kewley said after prying the door, the two men lifted the crowbar up to make sure the glass was broken away. The culprits then put the crowbar through the next door.

“Didn’t even try to open that door,” he said, adding that he wasn’t even sure if it was locked at that point.

Security cameras picked up the two men, who had their faces down and heads covered in hoods.

Alarms were set off as well as motion detectors.

At 5:46 a.m., after stealing about $1,700 in power tools, the culprits left.

Included were cordless power tools like grinders and reciprocating saws.

Kewley estimates the cost of fixing the doors to be about $1,000.

The Carrot River RCMP is asking the public that if they have information about this or any other crime, to contact the detachment at 306-768-1200, or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Kewley said that despite the challenges, the Carrot River Co-op will remain their tenacious selves and be vigilant.

“We won’t let it spoil our holiday season yet.”
