MELFORT — Melfort Fire extinguished a blaze consuming a car in the alley behind Shoppers Drug Mart on Main Street in Melfort.

Melfort Fire responded to the call on June 12 at 1:49 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found the car fully engulfed and began attacking it with water and foam.

Shaun Stewart, Melfort’s fire chief said car fires aren’t too common, and are typically with cars that are older or are maintained less regularly.

“Look after your car and make sure it’s well maintained,” Stewart said. “Maybe this time of year even check your coolant levels and everything like that. Make sure your motor runs as cool as it possibly can with the heat of the summer coming on.”

After the fire was extinguished crews used their Thermal Imaging Camera to make sure there were no hot spots that were not extinguished.

Crews then terminated the call and returned to base.
