The federal election has been called, and as of today, all major parties currently have a candidate in the Yorkton-Melville constituency.

In reverse alphabetical order, the announced candidates are the following people:

Stacey Wiebe is the candidate for the Green Party. An organic cattle and goat farmer from the Sturgis, Sk., Wiebe also works as the curator for the Sturgis Stationhouse Museum. Wiebe is also a secretary of the Saskatchewan Goat Breeders Association Board.

Cathay Wagantall is the incumbent, for the Conservative Party, and has been representing Yorkton-Melville for four years. Wagantall had previously operated a sign manufacturing and printing business with her husband in Esterhazy. As MP, Wagantall served as the Deputy Shadow Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Ryan Schultz is the candidate for the newest party in the election, the People’s Party of Canada.  Schultz has served as councillor in the village of Young. He is an electrical engineer who has worked at the potash mine in Colonsay.

Connor Moen is running for the Liberal party. Moen revived the Ukrainian Students’ Association when he was a student at the University of Saskatchewan, and went on to join the Ukrainian Council of Canada.

Carter Antoine will be the candidate for the NDP. Antoine is an Economics student at the University of Regina. Antoine was inspired to run due to his experience working retail, understanding the effects of precarious work, low minimum wage and living paycheck to paycheck.

We will update this story when we get official confirmation on any new candidates. The candidate nomination deadline is on Sept. 30. Canada heads to the polls on Oct. 21.
