HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) has received a $65,000 boost from BHP that will go toward the purchase of a chemistry analyzer.

When purchased, the chemistry analyzer will be used in the Humboldt District Health Complex to analyze blood and body fluids for both community and acute care patients.

Lorrie Bunko, executive director for the HDHF said that this piece of equipment was needed as their current model has become outdated.

“We are beyond overwhelmed with BHP’s gift to assist in the purchase of the analyzer and funding of the interface,” Bunko said in a press release. “The analyzer has been on our radar for a couple of years.”

This donation comes as BHP continues to develop its Jansen Potash Project in the area, located approximately 60 kilometres to the southeast of Humboldt.

“It is important the communities that surround our projects and offices have access to leading medical services for the overall health and wellbeing of local residents,” said Giles Hellyer, president with potash for BHP.

“We are excited to be able to assist in the purchase of a key piece of equipment for the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation.”
