It was a lot of work for a rewarding night with the Lanigan and District Music Festival final concert on May 4 in Lanigan.

This was also the award night for the festival with 65 awards given out and 19 medals for outstanding performances. Businesses and organizations from around Lanigan sponsored scholarships for the participants with cash awards given out from $25 to $150.

Twenty-two performances capped off two weeks of competitions in vocal and piano categories.

Competitors came from around the area, including LeRoy, Englefeld, Spalding, Lanigan, Naicam, Jansen, Drake, Guernsey, and Humboldt.

One choir performed from a school based program but the rest was all from private teachers that run lessons, says Nata Kline, president of the festival.

The competition itself was a busy two weeks, says Kline.
