HUMBOLDT — A week of bowling in rock and roll costumes raised almost $22,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Bowling for Kids’ Sake took place from Feb. 4 to 10 at Kemway Lanes and saw 21 teams participate.
“This event has typically been our premier fundraiser for our agency,” said Jodie Hergott, the organization’s development co-ordinator. “We rely on it quite heavily for a good portion of our fundraising budget. We’re thrilled that Humboldt comes out, gathers pledges and keeps us going.”
The most noteworthy pledge came from Muenster School, whose students raised more than $4,100 for the cause.
“That’s really impressive,” Hergott said. “Those are only Grades 3, 4 and 5.”
Hergott also pointed out the contributions of other organizations in the community. Some managed to get their corporate offices to cut a cheque, while others donated items for the raffle table.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has 19 kids matched up, while 15 are waiting for a mentor. That number will increase to 21 in the summer months.
“[The money raised] means that we can continue to make matches in the community and try and reduce that waitlist of ours,” Hergott said.
