The Humboldt and District Gallery is playing host to the colourful works of Leah Marie Dorion thanks to the Art on the Move Program presented by the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.

The Humboldt and District Gallery has a trio of exhibits currently on display, including an Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils Art on the Move exhibit, featuring work by Leah Marie Dorion.

The Exhibit entitled: Being One with the Earth, features work from Dorion, which showcases work “firmly rooted in Traditional Métis teachings of her Grandmothers,” noted an exhibition essay provided by OSAC.

Dorion, who was not able to attend the exhibit opening, includes teachings from other nations and territories into her paintings.

“Look at it. It’s lively, it’s colourful, it’s spring,” said City of Humboldt cultural programmer Catherine Harrison.

Strength, balance, Harmony, love and resilience are all common themes throughout Dorion’s work, which is represented through symbols.

A large yellow sun is one of those symbols, notes the essay, which represents masculine qualities and strength.

Throughout Dorion’s paintings, both land and earth are not stagnant, instead have line, form, and repetition, which indicate the vibrancy of life on earth.

With Dorion’s work boasting incredible colour, Harrison encourages people to come in with an open mind and let the art do the talking.

“Just have a really good look and really enjoy it.
