HUMBOLDT — An effort to convert four rooms at the Humboldt District Hospital for use by mental health and addictions clients is $6,000 away from its goal.

The rooms are being modificated in such a manner that it prevents any opportunities for self-harm. The cost of modifying each room is budgeted at $6,000.

Lorrie Bunko, the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation’s executive director, said over the past few years, there’s more mental health and addictions clients to serve.

“Saskatoon is always full and backed up and we want to be able to keep these patients safe and comfortable for them and their families until we can access rooms and space comes available in Saskatoon,” she said.

The Humboldt Emergency Relief Organization has donated almost $6,000, the Lake Lenore Lions $6,000, and the Lake Lenore Knights of Columbus $3,000, with a further $3,000 committed for next year.

Some of the modifications that will be made include new faucets, shower heads, window coverings, door hardware and shatterproof mirrors.

Once converted, the four rooms can also be used for other purposes.

“These rooms are remaining acute care inpatient rooms that will be able to serve a dual purpose,” Bunko said.

Those that are interested in contributing to the project can contact Bunko for more details.
