MELFORT — The City of Melfort, in partnership with the Melfort Public Library and Melfort Culture Days Committee, are holding a “Choose Your Family Adventure” event that will send families across the city.

“It’s based on the choose your own adventure books,” said Penny Markland, Melfort’s branch librarian.

“There’s no overriding story, it’s just they’re on a quest. It’s like the Amazing Race, more or less, but the challenges are geared for families, so challenges both adults and kids can enjoy.”

With each completed challenge, each family will get to choose one of two choices, which will lead them to their next location. To complete the adventure, each family will go through six stations.

Each team requires one member with a valid driver’s license, as the locations are scattered around the city.

“What they are trying to do is restore magic to a kingdom, which has gone missing,” Markland said.

“They’ll have a little passport to keep track of which they’re visiting, and if they complete six they’re going to find something to help restore the magic. That’s all I can say or I’ll give it away.”

There are no specific age restrictions, although Markland warns that team members under five years of age may have difficulty on some of the challenges.

“If you’ve got a family with a three-year-old and a five-year-old and adults then that’s fine, of course. We don’t want to put age parameters on it, just families”

The event will take place on Sept. 26, at 1 p.m., and will take about an hour to an hour-and-a-half to complete. Registrations are required to participate, which can be done by calling the Melfort Public Library at 306-752-2022. There are limited spots available for the event.

Start times will be staggered to give each team physical space.
