HUMBOLDT — An organization that provides programs that provide employment, residential, and community inclusion support services to individuals with varying abilities will benefit from an annual fundraiser at the fuel pumps.

On Tuesday, Sept. 21 Humboldt and District Community Services will receive 10 cents from every litre of fuel pumped at the Humboldt Co-op Gas Bar as part of the co-op's Fuel Good Day. The funds raised will go to the organization's summer recreation and respite program.

“We are ‘pumped’ by this news,” the organization said on Facebook.

Brent Walker, the co-op’s general manager, said the co-op’s staff members reviewed all the applications and voted for the organization that resonated with them the most. He said it was great that the Humboldt and District Community Services was selected.

“Through COVID I would imagine that they have a little bit more of a need and I think that’s great for the community to be able to make another good donation for them.”

This is the event’s fifth year. In the past four years, the average amount raised was almost $2,300. Last year, more than $2,500 was raised for Futuristic Industries. Nationwide, Fuel Good Day has raised $2.4 million for more than 600 recipient organizations since 2017.

“I think with COVID passing, we'll be able to have a big event there and create some excitement,” Walker said. “Hopefully we can beat that $2,500 mark.”
