HUMBOLDT — The shaving of a teacher’s beard raised almost $6,100 for the St. Dominic School playground project.

Michael Kresak said the idea came right before the school’s Telemiracle fundraiser in the spring.

“One of the parents suggested that they do something silly like this and I thought it was kind of funny,” he said. “I thought, ‘you know what, what a good way to top up our playground fundraiser that's been going on for a couple of years now.’”

The money was raised by students. The top five fundraisers got to cut a part of Kresak’s beard off.

Mikah Barrowclough-Mock, who raised $324, was one of those top five students.

“It was fun,” he said when asked how it felt to cut the beard. He added the best part was to  watch it come off.

Kresak said he thought the amount raised as absolutely incredible

“I think it's fantastic that our school came together over something as silly as shaving a beard. I think it’s great,” he said. “I just think it's a reflection of how amazing St. Dominic students and staff are to go ahead and do this in such a short period of time.”

Kresak had the beard for a little over two years. His face now feels different.

“[It’s] remarkably cool. Remarkably cool. And I mean, cold.”
