High school basketball has reached the playoffs.

After three months of high school basketball action, junior players are in the thick of district championship tournaments, while the seniors are competing for a shot at provincials.

Both the Humboldt Collegiate senior boys and senior girls Mohawks, enjoyed a week off.

The senior Mohawks, since they play 4A basketball, received a bye through conferences, as 4A schools do not begin provincial action until regionals, March 16-17.

So, while the senior Mohawks were given the week off, the junior Mohawks, as well as St. Augustine and St. Dominic were in action competing in the junior district championship tournament.

Junior Girls

The junior girls tournament featured a pair of local schools, with both Humboldt Collegiate and St. Augustine in action.

Unfortunately for both schools only one would be able to move into the second round of the district championship, as they were drawn against each other.

The older Mohawks took advantage of their younger foes, suffocating them on defense, while playing a free flowing offense.

That style proved very effective against the young Hawks as the Mohawks rolled to an easy 50-10 win.

With the win, the Mohawks move into the semi-final where they will take on Foam Lake.

The Hawks meanwhile, with their loss see their season come to an end.

Junior Boys

The junior boys tournament featured a pair of local schools, as both St. Augustine and St. Dominic entered teams, to compete against 11 different schools.

It was a tough tournament for the St. Augustine Hawks as they drew Strasbourg in round one of their district tournament.

The Hawks, who were coming off a 50-45 loss to Middle Lake in their league championship game, put up a fight against Strasbourg, but they could not keep Strasbourg off the board, as they gave up a season high 52 points in their 52-40 loss.

The loss officially brings the Hawks’ season to a close.

Unfortunately for the St. Dominic Chargers, things did not go much better than they did for their Humboldt rivals.

The Chargers, drew a first round matchup against Bellevue.

The boys from St. Dominic put up a fight against a tough Bellevue squad, but they could not pull out the win as they fell 48-31, officially bringing their league season to a close.
