The Humboldt Broncos continue to make changes to their roster as they prepare for the 2018-2019 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season.

The latest roster move saw the Broncos acquire Joseph Santalucia from the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Dryden Ice Dogs.

The Burnaby, B.C. native joins the green and gold fresh off his first full season of junior A hockey split between the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Olds Grizzlys and the Ice Dogs.

In 43 regular season contests last season, the 1999 born defense posted two goals, ten assists, and 40 penalty minutes.

In 11 playoff games with the Ice Dogs, Santalucia added three assists and 10 penalty minutes.

While light on age, Santalucia brings a wealth of experience to the Broncos roster having appeared in the Pacific Junior Hockey League final in 2015-2016 as a member of the Grandview Steelers.

Santalucia also played a key role in the Ice Dogs’ run to the Dudley Hewitt Cup final where they lost to the Wellington Dukes 7-4.

A win would have propelled Santalucia and his Ice Dogs teammates into the Royal Bank Cup, given out to the national junior A champions.

Santalucia will begin his quest to move one step closer to a national championship when he and the rest of the Broncos come to Humboldt for fall camp, which kicks off at the end of August at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

The Broncos’ first pre-season games come Sept. 1 against the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines, and Sept. 2 against the AJHL’s Grande Prairie Storm, with both games coming from late head coach Darcy Haugan’s home town of Peace River, Alta.
