SHERVEN: William Gerald
September 14, 1932 – May 23, 2015
It is with profound sadness that I come to you with the news of Bill Sherven’s passing. Bill passed quietly in St. Mary’s Villa in the early hours of Saturday, May 23, 2015. Uncle Bill was born in Naicam, Saskatchewan on September 14, 1932 to Eric and Islay Sherven. He was the fifth of six children, composed of three boys and three girls. They lived in Lac Vert and had many adventures at Silver Beach, a resort his parents founded and operated. We heard many stories of the family band and Grandma’s beautiful voice. He told us how they would cross the lake on logs, and how Maxine would chase everyone with snakes. When Uncle Bill was about 16 year old, the family moved to LeRoy, where Grandpa Sherven built the theater. Uncle Bill operated the projectors for many years. He also managed the Credit Union in LeRoy for a number of years. He took two years off from the Credit Union to work on the boats for NTCL in the NWT. He then returned to Saskatchewan and continued in the Credit Union system in Kuroki for quite a few years. I know all of the nieces and nephews have many stories to tell about visiting Uncle Bill in Kuroki every summer. After he left Kuroki he went to Dorintosh to manage the Credit Union there for a short time until he retired to Tobin Lake, where he had a little cabin. After being in Tobin for about five years he moved to Nipawin. When his health started failing, he moved back to LeRoy to be closer to Maxine, and moved into the LeRose Lodge, where he stayed for about a year. His health continued to decline to the point where he was admitted to the St. Joseph's wing at St. Mary’s Villa, and was there for little more than a year before his passing. Uncle Bill was never married. His adventurous spirit and unpredictability would never allow him to be caught in convention. He is survived by his sister Maxine(Norman) Gierl, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who loved him very much. Uncle Bill may not have had a conventional family, but he had a knack of being everyone’s adopted uncle. Thus, there are many families out there who lost their uncle and friend. We will all miss his sense of humour, and his infectious spirit that made him the life of the party. He was predeceased by his parents Eric and Islay Sherven, brothers Dr. Garfield Sherven, James Sherven, and sisters Donelda McNaulty and Lorriane Rodgers.
