A collision between a semi and a power pole in the alley on the 600 block between 9th and 10th Street caused a massive power outage downtown around 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 11.

The Humboldt Fire Department arrived on the scene and found the power pole on a slant and cleared the scene before SaskPower crews arrived, says Humboldt Fire Chief Mike Kwasnica.

Fire crews were on scene until 3 p.m. until the scene was safe and traffic control was no longer needed.

The pole was replaced by SaskPower and crews were on scene until 9 p.m. when power was restored in full to the area.

Around 400 SaskPower customers were without power for an hour and a half, according to media relations and issues management consultant, Jordan Jackle with SaskPower.

Power was restored to all but 60 customers for majority of the afternoon but power was turned off again for the whole 400 customers so that workers could complete the final fix, says Jackle.

The driver of the semi was not on scene when crews arrived but did return and was directed to the Humboldt RCMP.

According to Corp. Bob Anderson, the driver was ticketed for driving without due care and attention.
