Foreign Affairs spokesman confirms Canadian has been killed in Mexico

REGINA - Canada's Foreign Affairs department confirms a Canadian citizen has been killed in Mexico.

Foreign Affairs officials aren't confirming his identity, but they say Canadian diplomats in Mexico are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information.

A foreign affairs spokesman would not comment on a CBC report regarding the death of Regina businessman Duane Lang.

The CBC is reporting the 46-year-old man's relatives say they've been told he was the victim of a homicide while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta on July 28.

Lang reportedly owned a insurance agency with other relatives.

There have been a number of high-profile deaths of Canadians in Mexico in recent years.

Earlier this year, Sheila Nabb of Calgary had to have extensive facial reconstruction after she was severely beaten while vacationing at a five-star hotel in Mazatlan.

Mexican authorities later charged Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero, 28, with attempted murder.
