George Berscheid

George Berscheid December 21, 1944- June 7, 2012 The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. George Berscheid of Humboldt, SK occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, on Thursday, June 7, 2012. He was 67 years of age. George was born on December 21, 1944, to Joseph and Matilda (nee Hartl) Berscheid at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Humboldt, SK. His early childhood years were spent at home on the family farm in the Lake Lenore district. He began his elementary education at Lake Lenore. After the premature death of his father, his mother moved into Humboldt with her two sons, George and Roger. George completed Grade 8 at St. Dominic School in Humboldt and then worked on the Pape farm. Eventually, he also worked as a brakeman for the Canadian National Railway, driving heavy equipment in the construction industry, and as a mechanic for the City of Humboldt. Most recently, George was employed at Koenders in Englefeld and at Del-Air in Humboldt. He retired in 2010. A perfectionist and natural-born mechanic, George loved spending time in his shop building and rebuilding motors and various other vehicle projects. George will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his mother, Matilda (nee Hartl) (Berscheid) Pape of Humboldt, SK; his daughter, Tammy (Myles) Oberstrich of Medicine Hat, AB, and children, Steven, John and Adam; son, James (Sandy) Berscheid of Lincoln, NB, and children Jillian and William; brother, Roger (Debbie) Berscheid of Humboldt and family, Jason Berscheid of Humboldt, and Catherine Berscheid (Dennis O’Brien) of Bay Bull, NF, and his daughter Adriana; one step-brother, Michael (Mary Ann) Pape of Humboldt and family, Michael Pape Jr. (Amber Frey) of Clavet, SK, and Alana Pape of Calgary, AB; and by numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Berscheid (1955); and his step-father, Michael Pape (2000). The Funeral Mass for George was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were: Roger Berscheid, urnbearer; Michael Pape, crossbearer; Curt Berscheid and Glen Berscheid, scripture readers; Allan Hartl, intentions; Rodger and Lois Duerr, giftbearers. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in George’s life.” Interment followed at St. Anthony R.C Cemetery, Lake Lenore. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Anthony’s R.C Cemetery Fund or the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
